Welcome to Northern Sky

Hello folks

Thank you for popping by. I'm a freelance music photo-journalist specialising in mainly (but not exclusively)  folk and acoustic music, and have over the years met a lot of good people working in this field. After thirty years of active involvement in running folk clubs, festivals and music venues, during which time I have played my part in making some of this music with several Doncaster-based outfits such as Swiftnick, Sovay, The Buffalo Brothers, Solace as well as a lifelong musical partnership with my son Liam, I have embarked on a healthy pursuit of repaying my debt to a music I have loved for so long.

In the pages of Northern Sky, which was originally my own private journal, then opened up on MySpace for the public to peek at and finally now its own dedicated website, you will find live reviews, album reviews, interviews (both audio and transcribed), articles, photographs and playlists, as well as links to websites I find useful and informative.

I must stress, if you find a photograph, interview or anything you feel has not had the proper authorisation, then please get in touch with me immediately. I do not wish to cause offence or distress.

All the photographs used within these pages have been authorised by either the artist/management or I have assumed authorisation when receiving press passes by the venue, organisers or promoters.   

I did toy with the idea of opening up the site for contributions from other writers and would like to thank those who sent along reviews, but I have decided that Northern Sky should stay a personal account of my own. Many of the reviews, features, interviews and photographs included on this site are distributed to other sites such as Fatea and Folk and Roots as well as magazine publications such as fRoots and Maverick, and they will continue to do so.
